Middle School Clay Studio: Pinch Pot Planters

$70.00

Ages 11–14 | Two 90-minute classes | $70
Tuesdays @ 12:30–2:00pm July 21 & July 28

Students will design and build their own handmade ceramic planter using the pinch pot technique, then return the next week to add color and details with glaze. This two-week class is creative, hands-on, and a great fit for middle schoolers who want to work with real clay in a relaxed studio setting. No clay experience needed.

Maybe their planter has little feet, carved texture, a face, handles, stamped patterns, or a favorite color combination. It could be simple and modern, funny and character-inspired, nature-themed, or totally unique. We’ll have plenty of examples and ideas available for anyone who wants help getting started.

During the first class, students will learn basic handbuilding techniques and create their planter from clay. They’ll practice shaping a pinch pot, refining the form, attaching decorative details, and adding texture. During the second class, they’ll paint their planters with colorful ceramic glazes. After class, we’ll fire everything in the kiln, and finished pieces will be ready for pickup about 2–3 weeks later.

The class includes:

  • Two 1.5-hour studio sessions (both sessions are required)

  • Clay, tools, instruction, and painting materials

  • Enough clay to create 1-3 pinch pot planters (depending on size)

  • Use of textures, stamps, and decorating tools

  • Professional kiln firing

Parking/drop-off: Because studio space and parking are limited, this class is designed as a drop-off experience. If your student needs a parent or guardian to stay nearby, we have a few limited seats available in the studio—just let us know before you register for class so we can be sure there is space. There is also a nearby park and coffee shop if you’d like a place to hang out during class.

Age range: This class is designed for ages 11–14 so that students are working at a similar pace and independence level.

Finished pieces: Pottery can occasionally crack or change during drying and firing. We’ll do our best to help each student build strong pieces, but small imperfections are part of the handmade clay process. All pieces must be picked up within 30 days of notification that they are finished.

Cancellations/Refunds: Because space is limited and supplies are prepared ahead of time, cancellations made at least 7 days before the first class are eligible for a 50% refund. If your student is unable to attend, you may also transfer their spot to another student in the correct age range. Please let us know at least the day before class begins so we can plan accordingly. Thanks for understanding.
